Vito Liuzzi "Il Contrabbasso" or "The Classical Double Bass"

" Per diem " or BLOG

The Italian/English blog has borned during these days:

http://liuzzivito.blogspot.com/

I personally suggest you to visit my Italian Blog about the Double Bass, also because I talk about a lot of interesting aspects about to the classical double bass.

Due to my no correct English, in my Italian Blog, as you can understand, I can easily talk about a number of topics very high, and in a specialised manner.

I HAVE A TRANSLATOR THAT SEEMS TO WORK WELL. SO EVERYONE CAN READ MY ARTICLES IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE.

One of my italian article about UNAMS

Spett. UNAMS,

Come mai?

Detto in poche parole!!

Surely a new page called: "Daily Contents"

Dear friends and collegues and students,

I surely will add in the next days a NEW PAGE called "DAILY CONTENTS".

What's about it!

In the right part of this my official website I usally talk you in a very briefly manner about the main news not only about a CDs but also about different things I repute interesting to share with double bass players in all over the world.

Well, I can't go on in this manner because the right part has become very long and I'm going to use it only for somethings I will decide day by day.

In the new page "Daily Contents" I will add always a lot of things, as usual, but I will talk about important things, or less, that I would usually add in the rigth of the site.

How can I say?

THE "DAILY CONTENTS" would be a "longa manus" a prosecution of the right part of the site.

ALL ABOUT BOOTESINI (an incredible book)

It's strange but very strange.

Usually I don't watch to my website Statistcs because I think there are not so important.

But I've noted one thing: there are very few visitors which download the MOST IMPORTANT BOOK ABOUT BOTTESINI that you can find in the first page about him.

I know, it's only in Italian, but probably visitors have no understood the great importance of it. In example, you can find all the works written by Bottesini but, the more important thing, it's there's written where it's possible to find them (Museum, Editor, University, Conservatory ...). Than it's possible to follow year by year what Bottesini did and played. No other book has ever been written from researchers from this point of view.

Today it's impossible to find a copy of it because it's no commerce.

So I have thought to share it with all double bass players world, because none must have secrets. I'm also a journalist and I have this conception. It's no good for our double bass.

So, don't forget it !! Just to have it in your own library ... it's not so bad !!!

The Last Ideas by Vito Liuzzi

First of all happy christamas and happy new year. I don't know if I will have other interesting ideas for 2010 in relation with our so loved instrument, the double bass or il Contrabbasso (it's also correct to wrire Contrabasso or even Controbasso). On of the most important thing that we have done is to illustrate all Bottesini's works thanks to an italian book that none can be able to tell to have. Here you can find everything you want to know about "Il Cremasco" and with only a click you can download these informations exactly as written from this site. The intent is that someone can translate it in a correct English so research about Bottesini can be go on. Most of his material his here in Italy but also the British Library has a lot of interesting things, as I have said into the site.

Then, my friend Tom Martin. It's an incredible man and he has told me a lot of things that it's impossible to tell you.

I'm waiting for an interview from him and I hope to publish it as soon as possible. It might be very interesting.

Probably we will be able to read an interview with Boguslaw Furtok and Roman Patkolò. It will be interesting to know something about the classical the double bass from there point of view.

At the end in this year I'm going to video me and  ALL BOWINGS for A DOUBLE BASS.

Discussing all the different names in different countries. It would be the first time. You will find it on you tube, I think. When it will be ready you will know it.

And I hope to receive from you new Cd about the classical double bass to add into my web site. Contact me or firm my website.

Ciao from Italy.

THE BASS GANG (Italian quartett of double basses)

Without a doubt The Bass Gang (the italian quartett of double bass) is considered one of the best classical-bass-ensemble in the world, some critics talk about them as the best.

But imho they have great skills under these points of view. Antonio Sciancalepore, Alberto Bocini, Andrea Pighi and, last but not least Amerigo Bernardi (quartett's members) have an important thing in common: they all play in great italian Orchestra. Well, they also teach, play as soloist and so on ... but the great experience made in these Orchestras (also all over the World), has provided them an immense stability and an incredible tuning in all their performances.

I read someone on Youtube has told they are out of tuning when they play togheter. I think it's a "bad" thing to tell, just because The Bass Gang is the most requested db's quartet in the world. I think there will be a reason ! By the way it's only my honest and no important opinion. But I think it's not beautiful to go against someone under a nickname. But I'm sure The Bass Gang have no need of help because their incredible skills talk for them !! All the best from an "italian" db. player ;-)!

Remember him in the next edition ... I'm sure it has been due to the fact that probably you don't know him.

I think this important book has been written only in Italian. But I think that it's good for everyone because is very rich of history, methods and much more.

I don't know

Really, I don't know when this site will be completed. I repeat, propably when megabytes

will finish. But the "Contrabbasso or Double Bass" in the last years has become a very interesting instrument, at the same level with violin or cello. I hope to interview a lot of the most important double bass players. The site is dedicated also to young students, I hope they like it. By the way, in the last period I have added a little bit of materials to download and I always beg your pardon for my "incredible" English: it's something like an italian-English puts together.

INTENSIVE DAYS

Sincerly during these days I didn't think a lot of things will be happened.

Naturally it has been for me a big honour to have the chance photos and transcriptions by maestro Karr. Really, we know from a lot of years and the idea to create a page with interview dedicated to him and maestro Lewis has been mine.

I must dedicate more time on my doublebass before I'm going to prepare some recitals, but it's also important for me to have a sort of point of referrement for classical double bass players (I remember that also jazz players are welcomed).

I hope to receive as soon as possible my interviews from a lot of important doublebass players, also to understand their way to concept the Music on their instruments.

If you have any suggestments (not to elaborate again all this strange site), I would be very happy.

Sorry but I haven't got my Cd to promote.

But let me know about you ... also jazz bass Cd are welcomed.

ARCUS SINFONIA

I've posted a photo of mine in which it's possible to see an ARCUS SINFONIA, a carbon fiber bow. I think the price today is about Euro 1.600. Why do I talk of his price and not about its performances? Simply because I think it's to much to sell a carbon fiber with some skills positive and other negative at that price.

Naturaly, imho! I had the chance to buy it at another price. My students use a Carbondix and there's not so much difference. Btw. it seems that its sound travels at 7000 meters per second. I don't know but the quality/price doesn't convince me.

New section

In this little website I've inserted another section called "Orchestral Excerpts". As I've also explained it's no possible to put inside all "difficult" passages for doublebass, but my intention is to provide to young students what they might find during an orchestral audition.

With my students we try to analyze them, but it's always difficult to understand what a jury really requires. By the way, it's obvious that better you study and more chance you have!!

Let's talk about scales. in a few words

I've written some scales (no arpeggio, sorry) just to illustate a quite good system to finger.

Surely it's not best but neither the worst!!

I repeat it's a system that has got a own logic.

At the end you can play Bottesini Tarantella also with the first finger, or if your are a talent

every sort of fingerings for you are correct.

It's the last problem! But we must give a good vision to student, both at the neck or in thumb position, and eventualy also to explain why a finger is better than another (i.e. if let's consider all the phrase, or in a "cantabile" a finger vibrates better than another). One might write two hundreds of different scales, but why? There's no reason, imho. My final suggestment is to follow a technique solid and who gives you the sensation to play "easy". Bye

Always about scales !!

Today I've written another scale with the main concepts taken fro maestro Franco Petracchi, a book that every serious doublebass player should have, also simply to analyzed differents ideas. It's important to put fingerings with a "ratio" (reason) because it will be easier to memorized the different passeges. Let's go on!

Blog (better a "Diario")

I've decided to write in English this very little website. I'm not PC expert and probably neither a good double bass player. But I'm sure about one thing: my English is terrible ... my Italian a little better. Well, I'm sorry if there are mistakes of language. Surely, I'm not able to write an article in English. It's better: so I don't write a lot.

Another thing. As you have noted, in this site

there are a lot photos, pictures, videos and so on. Nowadays on the Net you find everything. But I hope to insert something interesting for double bass players. In the opposite case there are a lot of very interesting websites to visit !!!

Stefano Sciascia

Stefano Sciascia

"The legends about this concerto say it's Nanny's work, not Dragonetti's. This work has nothing to do with other Dragonetti's works and it's not among the Drag's manuscripts in the British Museum's library."

Here maestro Sciascia has recorded in first absolute the " authentic" Concert in Amajor for db. and "strings" (more two bassons and two horns) by Domenico Dragonetti (no.3).

About the other concerto "more famous" I have some doubts about the real composer: surely he was a work by E. Nanny.
